Web Design and Development

Web Design 1 (Beginning Web Design)

All TechFutures students take Web Design 1 in their first year of TechFutures training. This class teaches students how to design, create, and build Website interface designs. As part of this training, students learn how to write HTML from scratch as well as CSS and other related layout languages. Students are introduced to the idea of WYSIWYGs but are required to do all coding "by hand" for this first semester of training in preparation for their Database Design and Applications class which they will take later in the program. In addition to learning how to code Web pages and Websites, students learn the industry standard graphics tools that are used to make the images and animations that are included in interface designs. The applications that they learn include Adobe Photoshop and Adobe ImageReady. Additionally, students are introduced to Web animation. They create both Gif Animations and learn the basics of Flash Animation. Students are also introduced to the principals of design and given projects that teach them how to develop successful Website and interface designs. Students produce their own Web pages and Websites which include system text, graphics and animation.

Web Design 2 (Advanced Web Design)

In their fourth semester of the TechFutures program, students can elect to take the Web Design 2 class. In this class students learn Adobe Illustrator and are taught how to use this vector-based tool to create very professional looking Web graphics. Students also work on semester-long Client Site projects, which are real-world Website projects. The students work in teams and with a real client to develop and produce the project. Additionally, students create a portfolio Website in Flash. Students are taught advanced topics in Flash that help them to create a very professional looking portfolio. The other main component of this class is the introduction to 3D graphics. Students are introduced to 3D Studio Max, and they create both still and moving graphics using the 3D Studio Max software which are included in their final portfolio projects
